common mistakes made by applicants during Japan visa application

Planning to apply for a Japan visa from Nepal?

If yes, you’re already on the right path — but even one small mistake can delay or cancel your dream. Whether you’re applying as a student, worker, or tourist, it’s important to avoid these common but critical mistakes.

❌ 1. Submitting Incomplete or Wrong Documents

Many applicants forget small but essential items like:

  • Not attaching bank statements or expired ones

  • Missing pages in passport copies

  • Not signing the visa application form

Tip: Always use the latest official checklist and double-check every item before submission.

❌ 2. Applying for the Wrong Visa Type

Some people apply for a tourist visa while actually planning to study or work. This is a big red flag for the embassy and can lead to a permanent rejection.

Tip: Match your visa type with your real purpose:
Tourist = sightseeing or visiting
Student = studying full-time
Work = having a job offer or COE

❌ 3. Fake or Altered Documents

This is serious. Submitting fake bank statements, job letters, or COE can lead to:

  • Immediate rejection

  • Being blacklisted from applying again

Speaking from real examples, a person who applied for work visa to work as a chef in a fake restaurant in Japan. The Japan immigration office contacted the staff numbers enlisted for that restaurant and found it to be fake. That individual was permanently blacklisted to apply again.

Tip: Honesty is key. Even if your financial documents are limited, it’s better to explain than to fake.

❌ 4. Insufficient Financial Proof

Visa officers want to know if you can afford your:

  • Tuition fees (for students)

  • Living expenses

  • Return tickets (for tourists)

Many applicants fail to show enough funds or use a low-balance bank account.

📌 Tip: Ideally show around 10–15 lakh NPR in balance (or equivalent in Japanese yen) with recent transactions.

❌ 5. Ignoring Language or COE Requirements

Especially for student or work visa:

  • You must submit a valid COE

  • Some schools or jobs need JLPT (N5 or higher) or basic English

📌 Tip: Prepare early for language tests and apply only after receiving your COE.

❌ 6. Translating Documents Incorrectly

Nepali documents like marriage certificates or academic records need to be:

  • Officially translated

  • Submitted along with originals

Usually, translation takes time (depending the availability of language professor). so, apply well in advance.

📌 Tip: Avoid Google Translate. Use a reliable translation service or embassy-approved format.

❌ 7. Last-Minute Application Rush

Some students or workers wait until the last moment — only to find their documents are missing or COE delayed.

📌 Tip: Apply at least 1–2 months in advance, especially during exam seasons or travel peaks.

❌ 8. Assuming Visa Approval = Guaranteed Entry

Even if your visa is approved, immigration officers at Japanese airports make the final decision.

📌 Tip: Carry all important documents when flying — including COE, school letter, return ticket, etc.

Final Thoughts

Applying for a Japan visa is not complicated — but you must be careful, honest, and prepared. Avoid these mistakes, and your chances of success will rise significantly.
