This guide will walk you through the major types of Japanese visas available to Nepali applicants — who they’re for, what the requirements are, and how to apply.

🎓 1. Student Visa (留学ビザ – Ryūgaku Visa)

The Student Visa is for Nepali students who wish to enroll in:

  • Japanese language schools

  • Universities and colleges

  • Technical or vocational schools

✅ Requirements:

  • Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

  • Admission letter from a Japanese institution

  • Financial proof to support your stay

  • Passport & completed application forms

🕒 Duration:

  • 6 months to 2 years (extendable based on course)

📌 Tip: You can work part-time up to 28 hours/week on a student visa.

 

👷‍♂️ 2. Work Visa (就労ビザ – Shūrō Visa)

If you’re a skilled professional, Japan offers several work visa categories, such as:

  • Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services

  • Instructor (teaching in schools)

  • Skilled Labor (chefs, construction workers, etc.)

✅ Requirements:

  • COE issued by employer in Japan

  • Job contract or offer letter

  • Relevant qualifications or experience

  • Passport & visa application form

  • 1 year to 5 years (renewable)

 

🔧 3. Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Visa (特定技能 – Tokutei Ginō)

Japan has labor shortages in 12 industries, and this visa allows semi-skilled foreign workers to work in Japan legally.

  • Nursing care

  • Agriculture

  • Construction

  • Food service

  • Manufacturing, etc.

👨‍👩‍👧 4. Dependent Visa (家族滞在 – Kazoku Taizai)

This visa is for spouses and children of a student or work visa holder in Japan.

✅ Requirements:

  • COE issued by sponsor (main visa holder)

  • Proof of relationship (marriage/birth certificates)

  • Financial support documents

🎯 Dependents can study or apply for permission to work part-time.

 

🧳 5. Tourist Visa (短期滞在 – Tanki Taizai)

This visa is for short-term visits, such as:

  • Tourism

  • Visiting family or friends

  • Attending events or business meetings

✅ Requirements:

  • Return flight ticket

  • Travel itinerary & accommodation proof

  • Financial documents

  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

🕒 Duration: Up to 90 days

      Note: You cannot work or study on this visa.
